NGF crisis: Stop impersonating me, Amaechi warns Jang

Amaechi and Jang

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi on Sunday warned his Plateau State counterpart, Mr. Jonah Jang, against  impersonating him as the chairman of  the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

Amaechi was reacting to media reports on Saturday that Jang had invited the NGF members to a meeting scheduled for Monday (today) in Abuja.

Jang, who lost out to the Rivers State Governor during the May 24 governors election,   had in a statement said that the NGF forum meeting would hold at 6pm.

In the statement in which he addressed himself as the NGF chairman, Jang stated that after their meeting, the governors would meet with President Goodluck Jonathan at 9pm in the Presidential Villa.

He explained that the governors would meet “in view of the impasse arising from the Federal Allocation Accounts Committee meeting.”

State commissioners for Finance had on Thursday stormed out of the FAAC meeting in Abuja because of N60bn unpaid arrears.

But on Sunday, Amaechi distanced himself from the meeting announced by Jang, saying the he (Jang) should not tarnish  the integrity of governors.
The Rivers State governor said, “As the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum elected by my colleagues to safeguard their integrity and that of the forum, it has become imperative for me to request my brother, Governor Jang, to remain within the confines of decorum and cease to impersonate me and to stop parading himself as NGF chairman.
“There is only one chairman of the forum, duly elected by a vote tally of 19: 16 on Friday, May 24, 2013. For the avoidance of doubt, I, as chairman of the NGF have not called for any governors’ forum meeting for Monday, June 17, 2013.
“Governor Jang is my brother and a friend and I harbour no ill feelings against him;  but it is important that he stops this impersonation, as it could threaten all the good work we all have done together.”
Amaechi explained that the only meeting he was aware of was that between all the governors and Jonathan today.
“The only meeting scheduled for Monday June 17, is a meeting of all governors with His Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan scheduled to hold at 9pm at Aso Rock Villa.” He therefore enjoined all the governors to “please ensure attendance at this meeting with Mr. President.”
He reminded Jang that a legal action that had been instituted against him (Jang) by the Lagos State Governor, Mr.  Babatunde Fashola (SAN), asking him to stop parading himself as the chairman of NGF.
“As leaders elected by our people, Nigerians are closely watching us. We must comport ourselves according to the dictates and principles of democratic and lawful practices and norms,” Amaechi added.
He, however, reassured his colleagues that the leadership “crisis in the NGF would be resolved and the forum would be reunited as one family committed to the country.”
Amaechi stated that the forum would continue to support the President’s   “vision for a Nigeria that safeguards the rights of all its citizens to good governance and democratic norms.”
But in a swift response, Jang insisted that the NGF meeting would hold as scheduled on Monday.
The governor, who spoke through the Sole Administrator of his NGF faction, Mr. Osaro Onaiwo, added, “The meeting  would hold as scheduled and the agenda is the Federation Allocation Accounts.  After that members would proceed to the Presidential Villa to have a meeting with President Jonathan.”

Why we oppose use of condom – Catholic church

Condoms

The Catholic church says it opposes artificial family planning techniques, because it encourages bastardisation of sexual activities by young people and “impedes normal procreation.”

The Secretary-General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Ralph Madu, made this clarification.

He said, “The Catholic Church believes that modern means, including the use of condoms is morally bad because it impedes normal procreation. You can meet with your wife when you do not want children and those periods when the woman is not fertile instead of having to destroy the sperm and all other forms of artificial prevention.

“They are very artificial means and they do not really give the moral lesson that borders around the use of the sexual organs.

“The one that gives you the opportunity to exercise your sexual urge without the consequences is the natural method and the church says you should go for the natural means.”

According to him, the excuse that it reduces the spread of HIV/AIDS remains invalid and untenable, adding HIV/AIDS is a disease that is prevalent among young people.

Madu added, “When you are talking about condom among young people, you are also talking about promiscuity. People have adduced arguments in case of people with HIV/AIDS and especially couples who do not want children. The use of condom and other modern means are being bastardised among young young people because they will resort to the use of condom so that they can have sex freely without impregnating the woman or getting pregnant.

“Those are various artificial means and the church is strongly against them. Instead, the church endorsed the natural method of copulation.”

Police stole our joy – Father of slain boy

Timilehin and Olusegun

When on June 13, 2013, the Ebun family went to pick up their son, Jide, from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, everybody was happy because the 17-year-old boy had been in Canada where he was schooling and had not seen his family for two years.

The family comprising the father, Olusegun, the mother, Funke, the first son, Jide, the only daughter, Damilola, and the last child, nine-year-old Timilehin, were in a Sports Utility Vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder, with registration number HD844EKY.

Timilehin sat in the centre of the back seat with his two siblings where he was playing a hand-held game.
The nine-year-old boy and his father were engaged in an argument as regards his future ambition. While the little boy said he wanted to be a footballer, his father advised him to go to the university to study medicine after which he could go ahead to become a footballer.

The reunion was however short-lived. On getting to Mile 12 end of Ikorodu Expressway, a police stray bullet pierced through the windscreen of the vehicle and killed Timilehin on the spot.

Our correspondent, who visited the family home of the deceased on Sunday, saw sympathisers coming in droves to condole with the family.

The deceased’s father told PUNCH Metro that the police had stolen their joy.

He said life would never be the same without the little boy who was full of life and was always making the house lively.

Narrating what transpired on the fateful day, he said, “Jide had been away for two years and my plan was to go and visit him in Toronto, Canada. However, he said he missed his siblings and wanted to come home to see them. So, we decided to let him come. On that day, we went to pick him up at the airport. We were on our way back home at Ikorodu.

“On getting to Kosofe Bus Stop at Mile 12, we saw policemen trying to extort money from a commercial bus driver who had climbed the culvert to drive back towards Ketu. There was an argument in the process and policemen started shooting.

“One of the bullets pierced through my windscreen and hit Timilehin in the eye. The broken glass also injured my wife and Jide. Immediately after the shooting, the policemen boarded their patrol vehicle and fled to their station. I carried my son to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.”

Olusegun said touts were able to chase the policemen but in the ensuing pandemonium, his telephone and ATM cards were stolen.

He said on getting to the police station, he dropped the corpse of his son at the counter and all the policemen fled.

He said he remained at the station for two hours as the policemen refused to take his statement.

He said, “I got to the station with my son’s corpse and I created a scene as I told the policemen that they must kill me too. They all fled and when the Divisional Police Officer finally attended to me, the policemen were denying the allegations as they traded blame.

“After two hours at the station, I had to call a senior official of the Lagos State Government who then spoke with the DPO. My wife then wrote a statement.”

Olusegun described his son as an intelligent boy and a fan of Manchester United Football Club.

He said, “Timilehin was the only one that could operate our television very well even though he was just in primary three at Royal Scholars Montessori School. He loved watching Eurosports and cartoons and his best team was Manchester United. The police have stolen our joy.”

The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, told PUNCH Metro that it was possible that Timilehin was killed by armed robbers as a robbery incident had occurred in the area that night.

He however said the team of policemen on duty had been arrested and transferred to X Squad, the police department in charge of handling crimes committed by policemen.

He said, “Some policemen were trying to arrest a commercial bus driver when violence erupted. The policemen fired teargas but the hoodlums proved stubborn so the policemen called for backup. When backup arrived, shots were fired to disperse the hoodlums and the policemen arrested the driver.

“About two hours later, a man came to the station with his dead son, saying policemen killed him. The team of policemen has been arrested along with the driver. However, we are not ruling out the possibility that the boy was killed by robbers because there was a robbery in the area that night.”

A police source identified some of the arrested policemen as Inspectors Olaleye Sunday, Sule Dauda and Sergeant Razaq Alowonle.
The deceased’s father, however, berated the police authorities for trying to exonerate their men.

“It was policemen that killed my son, not armed robbers because I saw a patrol vehicle; except robbers now use patrol vehicles. The police have stolen our joy and all we want is justice for the death of Timilehin,” he said

My PH visit not to unseat Amaechi —Patience

Mrs. Patience Jonathan

Wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, on Sunday said her current visit to Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, is not meant to unseat Governor Rotimi Amaechi as being insinuated in a section of the media (The PUNCH not included).

Mrs. Jonathan, an indigene of the state, had been in the news for allegedly backing the anti-Amaechi members of the state House of Assembly, with a view to removing the factional chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, an allegation she has denied.

In a statement by her spokesman, Ayo Osinlu, the President’s wife said none of the purposes of her latest visit to the state had to do with politics.

She said apart from the fact that the entire country was her constituency, she equally had the liberty to visit any part of the state.

The statement read, “We have observed reports in some of today’s (Sunday’s) national dailies which are an obvious attempt by certain interests to link the current visit of the First Lady, Dame Patience  Jonathan, to Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, with a desire to unseat the governor of the state.

“For the purpose of protecting the innocent public from misinformation by these interests, it becomes important for us to state the facts of the First Lady’s presence in Port Harcourt as follows:

“Her Excellence was the Special Guest of Honour at the official commissioning of the Yitzhak Rabin International School, Port Harcourt on Friday,  June 15, during which she also received an award from the Yitzhak Rabin Centre for African Development for her successful advocacy for women empowerment and the achievement of enduring peace in Nigeria and around the continent.

“She also featured eminently as Mother of the Day at the wedding of her brother and member of the Rivers State Legislature, Evans Bipi, on Saturday.

“The First Lady will finally receive well wishers at the burial of her grandfather on Sunday, the 23rd.

“It is difficult to see how any of the activities above is associated with the political circumstances of anyone.

“Perhaps we need to remind those who are crying wolf and are being harassed by their own ghost, that Rivers is the home state of the First Lady, which makes her a principal stakeholder with all the rights and privileges to visit the state as she considers needful.

“This is besides the fact that the entire country is her constituency as mother of the nation, a situation that comes with the liberty to visit any part thereof at will.”

ALBUM REVIEW: Rugged Man and Mbryo Make It Drizzle

Label- Rugged Records (2012)

Rugged Man and Mbryo Make It Drizzle
In 2010, Ruggedman announced his retirement from the rap game with his last album Untouchable. But just like many before him Rugged couldn’t resist the allure of fame and is now back in the music game.

In his new LP Money Making Music, he carries his prodigy Mbryo along for the ride. It is the new in-thing in the Nigerian music industry. A veteran picks out a new talent and uses all his resources to push him into the limelight. So MMM isn’t only Ruggedman’s re-introduction but also Mbryo’s first outing on a major level.

Released last year, the LP contains 10 tracks split between Ruggedy Baba and his new companion. The album starts with Mbryo singing over a kicking beat produced by Tee Mode on ‘Takeover’. Mbryo’s has his sights on being the next big pop act with his easy rhymes and bouncy singing. Ruggedman makes his first appearance on Push featuring Terry G. The beat is undeniably energetic and Terry G’s performance is nothing short of his patent frenetic style. The odd thing is Rugged Man trying to sing like Terry G. It would have been better he rapped.

Ever since Wizkid hit gold with his ‘Tease Me/Bad Guys’ every pop act since then has released a freestyle hoping it becomes a hit single. Mbryo also tries his hands on this on ‘Remote’ produced by Popito. The result is a very chilled performance  which is different from most freestyle tracks. Sadly, his next song ‘I Like Your Azonto’ misses the mark.

Ruggedman and Mbryo appear together on ‘Money Making Music’.  Mbryo shines and shows his inherent quality while his boss drops bars reminiscenet of his early rap days: ‘we source like a socket/you hating- we just let you hang like a locket.’ Ruggedman croons and raps on the sequel of his 2007 smash single ‘Ruggedybaba’ feat 9ice. Mbryo holds his hook duties admirably but it seems Rugged is tired of rapping not just on this song but on the album.

On ‘Ireke’ Ruggedybaba sings ‘oya now she wants to go down/she wants do me low key (3ce)’. Rugged Man’s strong point will still be rapping and when he is up for it he can deliver a respectable eighteen bars but singing doesn’t suit his musical style. On ‘Oga Na Master’ produced by Oga Jojo he goes full rap mode- ‘now I am back with a brand new flow/brand new swag-brand new blow/brand new label-yep!- C-E-O’.

Mbryo shows that he is more than the average pop act on ‘Don’t Go’ where he mixes R and B with highlife. This is his best outing on the LP and it seems he is very natural on this track.

The album ends with ‘How You Want Am’ featuring Funbi a cool R and B/rap song.

Rugged’s re-entry into the game is based on trying to re-establish himself in rap music and introduce a new pop sensation. MMM highlights the beginning of this process. While some of the songs are okay, it would take a while for Rugged and his new sidekick to start making music that makes money.

Jonathan’s The Most Unjustifiably Abused Nigerian Leader, Laments Presidency

nigeria-president-goodluckThe Presidency has described Dr Goodluck Jonathan as the most “unjustifiably maligned leader” in the country’s history.

This was contained in a statement yesterday by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe.

Okupe was speaking on the heels of a lecture delivered by the Action Congress of Nigeria’s leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in London.

He said, “It is trite to observe that President Jonathan is perhaps the most unjustifiably maligned leader in the history of Nigeria with critics using their overriding influence on print and electronic media freely and in many cases unfairly to take potshots at him.

“It is common knowledge that no administration has been abused, lied against and harangued like the present administration under Jonathan.”

According to Okupe, the Jonathan administration has remained calm in the face of avalanche of criticisms and media attacks, adding that “journalists and their organisations have not been hounded or closed down as we witnessed in recent past.”

He noted that rather than muzzle free speech, the administration had always explored the legal option in seeking redress.

According to him, the signing into law of the Freedom of Information Bill, after previous administrations attempted to stall it, was a pointer to the democratic character of the present administration.
He said unlike the various ACN controlled states, the Jonathan administration had bowed to the wishes of Nigerians when they disagreed with certain policies of the Federal Government.

Okupe cited the reversal of the removal of total subsidy on petroleum products; amnesty offer to terrorists and the decision to shelve the introduction of the N5,000 note as some examples of the President’s magnanimity.

On the electoral system, he noted that Nigerians and indeed the international community had testified to a return of sanity in the process.

This, he said, is attributed to the reforms implemented by the Jonathan administration.
He recalled that no administration, since independence, had done more to address the social security problems in the country than the Jonathan leadership.

Faulting the ACN’s democratic posturing, Okupe said the party was not only undemocratic but autocratic.
He said, “For followers, local and international of Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999, there is unanimity of opinion that no administration has equalled the Jonathan administration in the observance of and respect for the hallowed principles of maintenance of rule of law, free press, sanctity of the electoral process, separation of powers and respect for public opinion.

“President Goodluck Jonathan’s opening up of the democratic space through institutional reforms clearly marks him out as a committed democrat.”

Amebo Pulse: Bentley Bonananza, M.I The Martyr, And Laugh-Spiration

New_GT_1a_7

Few of us like a Monday, but Amebo Pulse does for it gives him the chance to scratch the underbelly of Naija’s entertainment industry and laugh at the good, the bad, and the down-right pig-ugly, from a week brimming with potential victims.
Partriotic Gossip! That’s the mood from last week. We sang and cried our hearts to the sound of the national anthem, kissed the glorious Green-White-Green flag with wet lips, and our hearts were heavy with the weight of what Nigeria had achieved in 14 years of democracy: nothing. So after feeling very sad, we packed up our selves, hearts and all and went back to earn our daily bread and butter.
Amebo also went back to his field of gossip, peeping, gathering gist, and presenting it to you on a platter of gossip. Enjoy!

Bentley Bonanza
What is the greatest invention ever made by man? Cars, electricity, the internet, cellphones, Game of Thrones, or space shuttles? Who cares anyway? Ahem. For me, the greatest invention ever made was Nollywood. Yes, putting together the terror squad of  Saint Obi, Jim Iyke-Chan, Segun Scaryinze, the Ramsey Albinoah, and those crop of greedy singing actors- Tonto Dikeh my pokolicious love, evil Patience Uzokwor (Mama G), and Stella Damasus was the best thing humanity ever did to itself. I know you all reading this will be scratching your heads and shaking it like say I wan kill your pastor, or your imam…or your babalawo, but since, I run this show, you better sit up and accept all I say as truth because Amebo is anointed with the talk-talk authority to spread the gospel of gossip. I run this show!

Anyway, still on the invention story, let’s board a Danfo to Lagos, because all sweet stories come from Lagos. Those guys from the music scene are at it again. They believe the greatest inventions are cars. Who can blame their dumbness? When you spend all your time in some studio where you do nothing but singing trash, smoking expensive igbo, getting high on imported kai-kai, and sleeping with anything that moves and has a hole…(even their dogs). Make una no blame them. I beg una.

Mi (4)

So since they think they’re smarter, and have moving priorities, they don dey buy plenty of motor. Recently Wizkid, (Banky W’s boyfriend) got a Porsche Panamera, and I was like “excuse me?” That’s no news. I chose to ignore the cars dem, being content to eat my Tuwo. Drink my Kerewa, and drive my Legedez Benz . Until last week when some of this people make me know say I never hammer. 2 Nigerian artistes carry plenty money go buy Private Jets. Relax, I bin dey play. I meant to say, they both bought Bentleys. If in case you no sabi wetin Bentley be, lemme educate you, dumb. Ahem. Bentleys are Supercars, produced in obodo Oyinbo, and they are worth in excess of N40m. That should be enough for now.

2shotz shows off his Bentley
That short black boy, M.I wey don become chairman, and 2shotz the short man. 2 short men wey like tall things. M.I bought his own, made plenty noise sotay, me I vex. 2shotz just shot some photos of his short self and that was it. Congratulations. Una do well. But next time, we no wan know. We live in a country where even Pastors dey buy private jets from the Lord’s Vineyards, and talk more of Local Government Chairmen. Those ones? Let’s don’t go there. We are happy for you, but keep your purchases, to you, your family, and your gateman. Thanks.

Democracy Day? Who E Concern. M.I Again.
Even though I’m like the most courageous man online (it takes mind to be a gossiper), I categorically want to state that I can never die for Nigeria. It’s sad? I know. I’m unpatriotic? big deal. You dey vex? Hug transformer. I’m smart? Thank you jare. Chop eye-kles. But one thing I know is that the last way any one of you would like to see your maker is by catching a grenade for Naija. Because you go explode into bright tiny pieces, Nigeria go cry for one day, then the next day, everybody go return to earning their hustle, and you’ll be missing all the good things of earth while you’ll be singing in heaven, chilling off in purgatory, screwing virgins in paradise, or having a hot massage in hell. Whatever works for what you believe in.
So when democracy day reach again, I no worry myself because no be today wey we don dey die for better Nigeria. And frankly, Nigeria dey better small small. And even sef, wetin we dey celebrate when nobody go cook rice for us, or give us pure water make we use hold throat. I no send! Leave Nigeria jare make I yarn small gist.
First, let’s do a little classwork. Pick the odd one out: Nnamdi Azikiwe, Jude Abaga, Tafawa Balewa, Dele Giwa, Moshood Abiola.

If you didn’t get the answer, then my friend, you are not a Nigerian, and God is watching you. Just pack your bags, your bombs and your ammunition and kindly leave my country. Thanks for your cooperation. Any true Naija pikin go choose Jude Abaga, because the rest are national heroes who lived and died for the country, while M.I is a national Chairman  who sing and rap for the country…and buy Bentley too.

On democracy day, while everybody dey mind their business, leaving Mama Nigeria to chop the national cake alone, M.I no gree leave us to rest. He decided to toy with activism. Maybe the guy think say we wan start Occupy Democracy, so he decided to come earn himself an assassination with his own forum for national matters. He titled it; ‘Talk About It-The MADC (miabaga.com) Campaign For A Better Nigeria’. Where he invited angry youths to come talk their mind. But then the youths no send. No be Democracy they make them para. Na brokenness dey disturb them.

So M.I, take your time o. Concentrate on your ajebutter rap and new toys. Leave activism for activists. You are a rapper, not a politician. But if for any reason you feel guilty that you’re making too much money, and you want to do something for Nigeria, then politics is not the way. Instead, just like Papilo Kanu Nwankwo did with his heart foundation, open The Jude Abaga Height Foundation, where short people in Nigeria can go and receive counseling to help them deal with the stigma of lacking a few centimeters. Thank You.

Laughing Legacy!
Let me announce to you all that I love books. I have read over a thousand books and still counting. I started with Porn Magazines, and moved up the decency-ladder to angry preachers, hungrily reading my way through everything in black and white, black and brown, and grey and brown. So it is with great authority that I can say that I am the smartest gossiper alive. Or I’m just a dumb braggart. But remember I run this show, and if you’ve read this column up to this point, then you’re in love with my way of gisting, which is a very sick way of writing. Hmmm! We both need help. Professional help.

Back to the matter. Of all the books I read, the best are the Biographies and autobiographies. Again, I’ll condescend to say that these are stories of the life of great men, written to compell, inspire and motivate you. Bill Gates has one, Cristiano Ronaldo has one, Nelson Mandela has one, and I think Wole Soyinka will soon have one too. But then we live in a country where greatness is defined by the size of your bank account, and your popularity. So anybody with some change can go right out and write or hire some poor talent, maybe their village headmaster to write for them. So it came as no surprise when Nigeria comedians, after exhausting all the jokes they can come up with, or recycle, they have decided to start creating records of their life. Julius Agwu has released his own book, AY is set to follow, and next, I think Ali Baba will join in.

I just hope it’s not a new business venture because these books are supposed to motivate and inspire us. But since the comedians are writing it, I think their selling points will be their jokes. Instead of just inspiring you, these books will make you laugh too. They will be a Laugh-spiration to us all. So let’s all buy these books, and read.
I have recommended, and since you now love me so much, obey my order!

Terry G Baths Son

Terry G And his son having some quality time together
We all know the madman that Terry G is. In fact his madness is free. This one wey the boy eye dey shine like that, you sure say the boy no dey bathe with Alomo? Quote me anywhere, the first full sentence that boy will ever make in his life will be: “Daddy, Pass me the Ganja, make I knack mummy Akpako”.
